The Great Bear team has been glad to add Drew Munson as our Food & Beverage Manager! A seasoned chef, Drew spent the summer working alongside Jill to learn our operation. And is eager to see what winter is like in Roxie’s Cafe! 

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

A: I moved to Sioux Falls in 2014. Originally from Cedar Rapids, IA. Wife Chelsea My wife Chelsea and I have been together for 18 years and have three children, Maicyn 14, Maddux 16, and Carl, 18. Plus three dogs, Cajun, Sugar, Rico. I’ve been in Food Service since I was 14, so 32 years. I’m passionate about food and people. My background is in steak houses. I worked for Outback for 12 years, and owned my own bar and restaurant for 2 and a half years. Outside work and family, I have an extensive bourbon collection, play beach volleyball and golf. And I also do the announcing for all the Sioux Falls Christian baseball games on their live stream, colorful commentary and everything. 

Q: Why do you love working in the food industry?

A: Everyday is different, don’t get stuck in a monotonous situations. There’s always something new to do. I’m not a sitting at a desk person. And you get to meet all sorts of people from all walks of life. Plus, food is fun to play with.

Q: What has been the best part of working at Great Bear this summer?

A:The best part was working with Jill all summer. She’s great. I’m glad I got to work with her before retires. She’s just really a great person.

Q: What are you looking forward to this winter season?

A: Looking forward to actually seeing it. Everybody talks about what winter is like, but I’m a visual person. You can plan and plan all you want but until you are actually in it, you don’t know. I hope we get some snowfall and are busy.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you?

A: I like dogs more than people.
